This page explains how we produce our guides, so you can judge how far to trust them.
Our Purpose
We aim to give homeowners clear, sourced cost ranges and the context needed to read a quote. We want each guide to be useful on its own and honest about its limits.
How We Research
For each topic we:
- Read several current, public price sources
- Prefer recent, dated sources and note the date
- Use government safety sources, such as federal agencies, for safety facts
- Compare ranges instead of relying on one source
We show the sources in each guide.
How We Handle Weak or Conflicting Data
Price guides often copy each other, so more sources do not always mean more evidence. When figures disagree, we show the spread. We flag figures that are older, undated, from a single company, or from a page that marketed its own services.
We do not invent prices, statistics, quotes, or stories. When we cannot find a reliable figure, we say so.
How We Write
We write in plain language for non-experts. We state a fact once and explain what it means for your decision. Tables that stack ranges are our own arithmetic, and we label them as illustrations, not quotes.
Independence
Advertising does not change what we write. We do not accept payment from contractors or manufacturers to influence our guides. We do not take referral fees. See our Advertising Disclosure.
Updates and Corrections
We review guides when we learn that prices or sources have changed. The page may show a “last updated” date. If you find an error, let us know through our Contact page with the page, the figure, and a source. We correct confirmed errors promptly and note material changes on the page.
Limits
Our guides are general information, not quotes or professional advice. Please read our Disclaimer.
